2014 Client + Trainer(s) of the year!

Another year down and it’s time to announce our 2014 Client of the year.   This gets harder and harder every year.  We have had several clients break the 50lb, 60lb, 70lb, 80lb, 90lb, and even the 100lb weight loss mark.  We had over 700lbs lost between our two 2014 HBA weight loss challenges alone.

This year I wanted to focus on overall transformation rather than just a number of lbs lost though.
A big congratulations to Janelle J!  If you know Janelle, you know that her year has been truly inspirational.
Screen Shot 2014-09-30 at 3.21.05 PM

As of her last evaluation she has lost 23% of her body weight and 38 inches! Before starting her doctor told her she had high cholesterol and a fatty liver and was concerned. That is all gone now!

Janelle ran the Rugged Maniac with us, ran and helped raise money for the “Hunting for a Cure” race in Holyoke to support Huntington’s Disease, and she truly made the commitment to do whats necessary in and outside the studio. You might have seen her before and after picture attached, that was over 10lbs ago!

Great work Janelle, I know Fabian and the rest of us here at One on One are so proud of you.

I usually take this time to give some more clients a shout out.  But this year I am going to do it a little different.

I would like to shout out our team of trainers this year.  They are the heart and sole of what makes One on One the place to come lose weight, shed body fat, get healthy, and just be in the best shape you can.

First off I give the “Hard Work, Dedication!” award to Todd. He has been with us for over 5 years now. He is so committed to his clients, he gets up early and trains late to help them succeed.   Hi clients have a love/hate relationship with his friendly (yet torturous) attitude.   He is also very helpful to me personally, always helping out where it’s needed at the studio. Thanks Todd!

“Most impressive!” award goes to Fabian. I have watched Fab grow so much as a trainer over the past 4+ years. His continual thirst for knowledge to get the best results for his clients and his technical knowledge of the body and how it works is one of the best I have seen.   Getting results for his clients has paid off as Fab is now a “in demand” trainer. Keep up the great work Fab!

“The Biggest Heart!” award goes to Jane. Been with us for 6+ years now. I have never seen a trainer so committed and connected with her clients on a personal level, trying to help in any way she can.   I think I would also give Jane the most creative award for her bootcamp classes. Always something fun and different!   Thanks Jane!

Thanks so much for all your hard work and commitment to all our clients and trainers. I can’t wait to keep it going in 2015!

2013 Client of the year!

We had another amazing year here at the studio in 2013.

As we thank you all of you for your hard work and dedication I would like to announce our client of the year.

Every year this is a really tough decision as many people have gotten amazing results and could have gotten it. However I made my decision and 2013 belongs to John Mitchell!

John has lost 67.6lbs so far, 29% of his total body weight!   Those are some crazy results.  Very motivating!
John2013Johns consistency with the workouts has been amazing, it always is with the people who get results.  The great and inspiring thing about him is that he did not give up.  He did not have success right away, but he believed me when I told him that if he put is all into it, that it would be the greateast decision he ever made.  He is a new man, he walks with the confidence that only comes with having worked hard for your success.

I really enjoyed watching how John really took the time to learn about what proper nutrition was.   As we all know, working out is only half the battle.  I also love how passionate he is about not making excuses and just making it happen.   Both taking the time to workout each day and constantly learning how many calories are in new foods, reading labels, and taking nothing for granted.  Way to go John, we are so proud of you!   (ps you have to start collecting some of this fan mail, the studio office is getting crowded 🙂 ).

John wasn’t the only one that got great results.  There are too many of you to mention everyone, but here are a couple of the other nominations for this year.

When I asked Fabian about his input he immediately talked about Jeff and his hard work.  The word Fab used, and his face lit up when he said it, was DETERMINATION.  He was psyched how determined and dedicated he is.   Jeff is down almost 50lbs now!   We can’t wait to see you keep it going in 2014.

Todd wasn’t going to let me do this blog post without mentioning Cherie.  She showed us what ‘ no excuses’ is all about.   A broken elbow and ACL surgery both in 2013 didn’t slow her down one bit.   She kept working out the whole time, finding ways to keep it going while she worked around her injuries.  Truly inspiration for anyone that tries to have an excuse why they can’t workout.

Jane made a very strong case for Emmy,  she sent me a in depth email that was very passionate about her feelings for Emmy’s accomplishments over the past few years as a One on One Fitness-er.   Saying “Emmy has not only accomplished weight loss but she has a new passion for fitness….she always does her homework…is eager to learn more….she has inspired her Husband and son to start working out too…other people in our bootcamp look up to her…   Jane and the rest of us are so happy that we can call you a ‘One on One Fitness-er”  Emmy.   Keep up the good work!

-Altough they are fairly new to the studio, both joining in the fall, Andrew put up a good case for Patty and Sam who started late in this year but are already down over 20lbs and 30lbs respectively!   Whohoo!  2014 Client of the year?

Other highlights:

-Janet F and Kelly M making this years Healthy by Accident Weight loss challenge, our most successful ever, exciting down to the last week.  We had dozens of people lose 10, 20, and over 30lbs in 8 weeks!

-Jenni and Alissa have been killing it at Bootcamp.  Down over 36lbs combined!

-We had several people join the “Pullup Club”.  Kelly H. and Janet L. are a couple that come to mind!   A woman (that may or may not be 60 yrs old) can do 5 pullups!   Really?!

-Mike O breaking the 50lbs lost mark this year a day I’ll remember!

-Jen S is currently on fire getting ready for her big day.   Best I have ever seen her at.  Keep up the good work.

-Kristina you never give yourself enough credit but you continue to inspire me.   Going through the mental battle of losing a lot of weight and then letting yourself know its ok to putting baby weight on while your pregnant and not to lose your marbles knowing all the hard work it took to get that number on the scale down.   Now you have a great little man to show and your back on track losing weight, being healthy, and balancing the ever challenging work of being a mother/wife/worker.

-Too many first time 5k, 10k, and half marathoners to mention.   I would be afraid of leaving someone out, but keep up the great work everyone!

All the people keeping weight off, Jay, Jamie coming back from shoulder surgery and still doing fantastic, Heather, Owen….Ahhhh to many to name.   There are so many people I would like to name, we keep growing every year and I know I’m leaving some pretty amazing stories out, but I just hope that each one of you know how much we love working with you.   You inspire us and YOU are the reason why we love our “jobs”.  Thanks again, I hope you and your family have an amazing holiday season, and I look forward to seeing what you can do in 2014.

Don’t get angry, get results!

Meet Casey, she was the angriest client I have ever had come into the studio.

She had lost zero lbs in two months. scale

When I asked Casey what she had been doing to lose weight she said

‘I have been working out and eating healthy for two months now’

I then asked what she was doing for workouts and what eating healthy meant to her. I wanted details. She gave them to me, and without making this story too long, it wasn’t all her fault.

She was just misinformed with countless advertisements and programs on TV and online. She though it was simple and it was going to be easy. After all, most of these programs say “just 20 minutes three times a week” and you will have your dream body. Showing these people with awesome bodies, fooling you into thinking it only takes 60 minutes a week of exercise and nothing else.

She wasn’t happy to hear it when I told her it was all BS and it was going to be hard, it was going to take time, and she would have to focus and do something (physically and mentally) everyday to reach her goals. But she also said she would do it! That she would listen and learn everything I would teach her and follow our plan.

Boy did she! It is now six months later and she is down over 45lbs, keeping it off, and in the best shape of her life. She walks and talks with confidence and is a new person. I am so proud of her.

Why did I tell you this story? Too many people get angry and frustrated when they are not seeing results in the gym. That’s when I say, don’t get mad, get results! Quit looking in the wrong places for easy fixes. Block out the empty promises that you are bombarded with online and on TV.

It takes work and commitment to learn how to live a truly healthier lifestyle. Even if you think you know everything, talk to a professional and make sure you know.

Once you have that golden information and have your plan in place, take action each and every day and make your goals become your reality. You will be so happy you did.

-Most Important Nutritional Blog You Will Read-

We did a couple grocery store “Nutrition Tours” with a resisted dietician over the past couple months here at the studio. There was one point our dietician tour guide made that I totally agree with and really gets me fired up.

-Be careful of where you get your nutritional information from.-

There is so much information out there now telling you the best way ever to lose weight. Online, on TV, what your neighbors say, what your friends friend did…I could go on and on but the main point here is that information can be wrong, confusing, and even sometimes harmful. There are a lot of diets out there that might help you lose weight fast, but in the long run they can reek havoc on your metabolism and body overall.
th

When you see or hear something take a look at the source where the info came from.
Magazines, TV, and websites are funded by advertisers and these advertisers are trying to sell you something. When reading an article or watching a show make sure it’s info from a credible source and not somebody trying to sell you something. Especially Blogs and websites, there is no regulation and anybody can say anything.

Speaking of people trying to sell, there are a lot of people out there selling supplements. I’m not going to name names of these companies, there are a few of them, but they are driven by “selling” people like you and me that they can make a lot of money and live the dream life by selling their products.

Maybe true you can make money, but the sad thing about most of these companies to me is that they brainwash their people selling it into thinking that these products are the best and only way for people to lose weight and that they are unhealthy if they are not taking them. Simply not true
fact
I have to be careful here as I have a few friends that have tried working for these companies, but OF COURSE they are going to tell you there products are healthy! They love saying “Scientifically Proven” or “Research Based”. Yes maybe some study was done by their own team of biased researchers! Most people recruited to sell these products have no outside nutritional education other than what the company has told them.

Don’t get me wrong, under certain circumstances with athletes or people with illness, supplements can be a good thing. But leave it up to a Registered Dietician and your Doctors to make those judgements, not the person with no education besides a weekend seminar from the company trying to make them rich.

The majority of people don’t need supplements, if you are eating the right way with proper portions of vegetables, fruits, and natural unprocessed foods you will have all the tools you need to become the healthiest version of you.

In a perfect world everyone would go to a trainer for fitness and a registered dietician for nutrition. Unfortunately it’s not a perfect world and as a weight/bodyfat loss personal trainer it’s hard to ignore all the nutrition questions as nutrition is so important for weight loss. If you don’t eat properly then you will not lose weight bottom line. So where should a personal trainer stand on nutrition?

A good educated trainer will have a taken basic nutritional classes to get their degree (be weary of the trainers who just picked up training as a hobby because they like to workout with no formal education, that’s a whole different blog). A good trainer will be able to give you some of the BASICS but only the basics of healthy eating. We should be getting our more detailed info from Registered Dieticians. These are the people who have put the time and work into earning a graduate degree and learning from actual unbiased scientific research. All the info I have ever passed onto my clients is from registered dieticians and the basics of healthy nutrition are actually pretty simple if you put your blinders on and ignore all the noise you hear.

We all need to quit trying to find the fast and simple way to lose weight. Nothing great ever done was easy to do.

That’s my rant for the day! I’m not trying to bash anyone. I Hope that what you learned from my blog is to be weary of the information that is passed onto you. Some info isn’t regulated as much as it should be, and sometimes people not knowing any better will pass on bogus practices thinking they are doing some good. As always please share with me any questions/comments you may have on my Trainer Pete Facebook Page.

January Weekend Workout + Motivation!

January is a time when a lot of us look for new beginnings and set some goals for the year. I hope that you have the courage to do what you need to do to reach your goals in 2013.

“The harder I work the luckier I get”.

To lose weight, get stronger, become healthier, get faster, feel more energized, or whatever your fitness goal may be you must work hard.  Not only physically, but mentally as well.

“We become what we think about”

Think about yourself as a success.  Whatever success is to you think about what it will take for you to get there.  Then believe that you can do it.

We become what we think about.  Really  believe that you can do it.  Say it to yourself, say it out loud every day in 2013.

Nobody else is going to do it for you.  YOU are in control.  Once you believe you can do it, take action and Make it happen.  action

Make it happen every day.  Embrace the challenges and setbacks as learning experiences and each and every day do something that is going to get you closer to your goal.

What have you done today to get closer to your success?

Believe, Focus, and Take Action!

As always if there is anything we can do to help you get closer to your 2013 goal let me know.
